Antioxidant Fruits
Almost all fruits have antioxidant activity. Fruits although high in antioxidants are not the highest foods in antioxidant activity. The USDA and Tufts University have produced a list of general foods and there antioxidant ORAC scores. You may see it here.
This web site gives information on each fruit not only just their antioxidant activity and power but also health benefits of each of there fruits. Research has shown that our bodies need the nutrients found in antioxidants but we do not eat enough of the right foods. Most health professionals now agree that we all need from 7 to 12 servings of fruits and vegetables a day but only 11% of us come close to that. It is also thought by these same health folks that we might need as high as 15 servings a day.
You can cut down on what you need by eating organic. Studies have shown that organic foods can have as much as 30 to 40% more nutrients than food grown the standard way. All of the processed chemical fertilizers, pesticides and other science used in hybridization does not allow the foods to reach their naturally given potential. Also much of the food grown the standard way undergo radiation treatment to kill all of the bacteria we are now afraid of. Organic grown food does not have these drawbacks.
It is also important to eat raw foods. Raw foods may be frozen and not lose any of their nutrient value. Also it is better to eat wild grown fruit verses commercial grown fruit even if it is organic. For example wild blueberries have 50% more antioxidant power than commercially grown blueberries. We have tried for nearly 200 years to match mother natures ability and even with all the science we have failed. We just cannot accept that you just can’t fool mother nature.
